Recipe: Peanut Butter & Chocolate Milkshake (GF, V)

I’m always looking for healthy things that taste like dessert. This shake is exactly it; with lots of nutrition and tasting just like an ice cream milkshake, you can’t get any better. This recipe is also entirely vegan, gluten-free, and free from refined sugars.

Creamy, sweet, and filled with chocolate… plus, this shake has tons of protein! I love this for breakfast, a post-workout snack, or for a late-night dessert craving. Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe if necessary.

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Banana Shake

Serves: 1


  • 1/2 banana, frozen and peeled
  • 1 cup nut milk (almond or soy are good)
  • 1 tbsp. peanut butter butter *
  • 1 serving chocolate protein powder **
  • Small handful of ice

* Don’t like peanut butter? Want to try something different? Substitute the peanut butter in this recipe for almond butter!

** I used the brand Vega. You can also substitute for 1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder.


Put everything in a blender and blend. Simple as that. As always, serve with a straw and enjoy.

Chocolate Protein Shake at a local smoothie shop

Note: For a “chocolate chip” effect, add cacao nibs! If you want your shake sweeter, add a pitted date or two. Use ripe bananas, as that’s easiest on your digestion AND will make your smoothie the sweetest.

Also, feel free to add spinach for a nutritional boost! It may not make your shake a pretty color, but sometimes that is not what is most important 😛
