Recipe: Double Chocolate Brownies (GF)

This is a recipe I adapted from Dani Spies’ “Double Chocolate Avocado Brownies.” Her recipes are amazing! I highly suggest looking at her videos and checking out her blog.

You won’t taste the avocado; it simply makes the brownies creamy and replaces the butter in a typical brownie recipe. The banana, on the other hand, DOES have a slight flavor in the end product, so if you don’t like that, substitute it for (unsweetened) applesauce.

As I say with all my recipes, these are honestly delicious. I am a total chocolate lover, so these brownies are perfect to satisfy any sweet tooth! They’re dairy-free, gluten-free, and have a bunch of healthy fats from the avocado.

Serves: 9

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 large banana
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup coconut flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
  • ½ tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ⅓ cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease an 8 x 8 in. or 9 x 9 in. baking pan with coconut oil or whatever you’ve got on hand. In a food processor, combine avocado, banana, honey, maple syrup, and vanilla. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl, and add the eggs, coconut flour, cocoa powder, sea salt, and baking soda. Mix together just until combined. Spread the batter evenly in the baking pan, and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake for 24 minutes. Let cool.
