How to Cook Popcorn Over the Stove

My entire family is avid eaters of popcorn. Popcorn is the perfect late-night snack, and obviously an essential for watching movies. It’s crunchy, salty, and totally satisfying.

The high majority of microwave popcorn packages out there contain trans fats, artificial flavors, and weird ingredients you’d never use in your own home. It’s the add-ins such as colorings, butter, and extreme quantities of sodium that make these popcorns unhealthy.

However, popcorn on its own can be nutritious! Popcorn is a whole grain, low in calories, and high in fiber. By making the popcorn yourself you have complete control of what you add in, and all you need is a little bit of salt to make it totally tasty.

Serves: many

  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil
  • ⅓ cup kernels
  • Salt, to taste

Pour just enough oil to cover the bottom of a saucepan. Put three kernels in the saucepan and cover with a lid. Once the three kernels pop, add the rest of the kernels.

Keep the lid on, and continuously shake the saucepan with a hot pad on. Once all the kernels are popped, transfer to a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt, and enjoy!

If you use too small of a pan, the popcorn will overflow. No worries! It is not hard to clean up 🙂
