Recipe: Peppermint Hot Cocoa (GF, V)

Another hot chocolate recipe because that is what rainy weather is for! I enjoyed this hot cocoa as it should be enjoyed, which is inside on a rainy Sunday morning while still in your pajamas.

The addition of peppermint in this recipe is unbeatable. It makes me think of Christmas time and all the wonderful things that season holds. The hot chocolate here has a thinner consistency than this sweet & spicy recipe, but is still creamy & thus delightful.

Any health benefits of dark chocolate? Yes! Dark chocolate contains antioxidants, polyphenols to control cholesterol, and flavanols to improve heart health. It is also chock-full of manganese (98% of the RDA value), copper (89% RDA), magnesium (58% RDA), and iron (67% RDA). Drink up!

This cocoa is perfect for any morning, nighttime, or whenever you’re needing a chocolate boost. It’s warm, soothing, and satisfying.

Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Serves: 2


  • 2 cups unsweetened plant milk
  • 3 tbsp. dark brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. dark chocolate, crushed/chopped
  • 2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp. pure peppermint extract


In a medium saucepan, warm the milk.

Add in the brown sugar, dark chocolate, and cocoa powder. Whisk vigorously to dissolve the sugar and melt the chocolate.

Once the dark chocolate is nearly melted, mix in the peppermint extract. Continue to stir.

Turn off heat once chocolate is completely melted. There should be a smooth consistency overall. Serve warm at your desired temperature!
