It’s hard to believe it’s already March—February seemed to fly by. Each day we come sooner to the end of winter, and the countdown to spring break has recently begun. March Madness brackets are pulled out, too, and already am I making plans for St. Patrick’s Day! For me, this year in March each weekend has something to look forward to, such as my best friend’s birthday, and, of course, the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Per usual, this season brings new styles. Oversized apparel, platform sneakers, bell bottom jeans, dangling earrings, and new hair ties, to name a few. Without further ado, here are some trends I’ve been loving these past couple of months.
The pair I have are checkered and, of course, platformed. There are other styles with touches of light pink or simply plain black. I love these sneakers because they add an extra layer to your outfit and are a fun, simple, and classic way to change it up from the usual Converse, as well Supergas from the fall.
My Godmother gave these to me for my birthday, so wearing my Vans this season has consistently reminded me of her! I love how clothing has stories in that way—I remember where & when I got each item of apparel in an outfit, and that makes each outfit all the more special.
Oversized sweaters seem to have been a godsend this season, keeping me warm & cozy while still, of course, staying stylish. I love throwing a sweater on over my head, making an outfit simple, as well as curling up in an open button-up sweater and adding it to a top & leggings. These are great, too, as the weather gets warmer and no longer do you need a winter jacket—Just a sweater!
Dark & Rounded Glasses
Ah, these make you look studious and even add an extra dimension to your outfit. Even if your prescription stays the same, switching your lenses can give you a refresh! This season I’d definitely go with dark, rounded, and even a bit oversized lenses. Mine were literally a size large. (Although, I will note that I do have a fairly large head.)
Dark Wash Flared Jeans
This list simply would not be complete without stating my latest addition to my closest, my Free People “Just Float On” jeans. I was surprised with how comfortable they are, and I am loving the way these bell bottoms fit. They also work with a ton of different tops, so I never have to worry about finding an outfit.
In these pants, I ordered a “short,” compared to a “tall” or “regular.” Despite that, they are still too long on me—not so surprising—and so I rolled them up a bit and even wore my platform Supergas with them. I may hem them in the future.
Prior to this year, the last time I wore dangling earrings was, quite literally, with the feather earring trend back in 2012. Since then, I’ve consistently stuck to simple studs, such as pearls and gold spheres. However, I am loving adding these large earrings into my outfits, and my favorites are undoubtedly hoops.
I love chokers for layering, especially for including a touch of color. In Miami, I got a new one handmade with a dragonfly. I asked the designer to make it with blue, instead of purple, as blue is one of my favorite colors. Chokers have more styles than you’d originally think—I have stretchy ones from Brandy Melville, one that’s tie in a bow, and others with a sole charm. No matter it is, I always love to be creative when it comes to jewelry. There is not a wrong answer.
Oh, yes, another oversized item. Flannels are versatile, specifically in regard to the fact that I literally sleep in my flannels and then also wear them as actual clothing. You can choose to button it up or leave it open with a shirt underneath. Either way, there are manifold ways to wear your flannel and each one has a different fit & color. My most recently obtained flannel is from Free People, but I’ve also found good ones at Brandy Melville, as well as outdoorsy stores (hello, Gander Mountain) and in the men’s section.
New Hair Ties
Okay, so I’m not sure of the official name for these hairties, but they’re a plastic coiled circle. They really do give your ponytail a different look, and I like changing it up from the “normal” hair elastics I’ve used my entire life. These work for a ponytail, for a bun, and for wearing around your wrist!
Long Champ Bag
Name a more iconic bag, seriously. The truth is I was the last of my friends to get this item, but nevertheless I love it and laugh when we all show up with the same bag. I chose the color black, which feels classy and versatile, but there are also other nice colors, such as navy and pink. This bag is unbelievably useful and can fit lots of stuff. Definitely perfect for a day downtown and carrying along on a plane.
